Ge. Lancioni et al., AN ACOUSTIC ORIENTATION SYSTEM TO PROMOTE INDEPENDENT INDOOR TRAVEL IN BLIND PERSONS WITH SEVERE MENTAL-RETARDATION, Perceptual and motor skills, 80(3), 1995, pp. 747-754
An acoustic orientation system was devised to promote independent indo
or travel in blind persons with mental retardation. The system was ass
essed with four blind adolescents, all affected by severe mental retar
dation. Data showed that the system was very useful in helping those a
dolescents orient and move independently in their daily environment an
d in a new (generalization) setting. The findings are discussed in rel
ation to the characteristics of the system.
