Abstract
The ''substantive-genetic'' approach is applied to the classification of human; altered soils and soil-like surface materials within the gen eral system of natural soils. Soils that have undergone profound human -caused alteration (Anthropozems) are classified in detail and their i dentification characters are presented. Superficially human-altered so ils and soil-like surface bodies are also classified. Series represent ing increasing degrees of human impact are also presented.
