C. Olive et al., PNEUMONIA DUE TO BORDETELLA-BRONCHISEPTIC A IN PATIENTS WITH HIV-INFECTION, Medecine et maladies infectieuses, 25(5), 1995, pp. 765-766
We report two cases of pneumonia due to Bordetella bronchiseptica in p
atients with HIV infection. One of them was presenting as the first op
portunistic infection. History of animal contacts was reported. The pa
tients were cured with ofloxacin, which has been found bactericidal in
vitro. In patients with HIV presenting respiratory symptoms and expos
ed to animals, pathogenic role of B. bronchiseptica should be suspecte
d. A bronchoalveolar lavage is necessary to allow isolations of B. bro
nchiseptica and antimicrobial susceptibility tests including broth dil
ution tests, since appropriate treatment has not been yet established.
