Abstract
Based on a full-wave vectorial analysis, the effects of fiber cores on the coupling characteristics of weakly fused couplers are investigate d. We find that prior results based on the rectangular waveguide appro ximation and the effective index method overestimated the coupling str ength and the effects of the cores.
