Jh. Brooks et Dl. Dubois, INDIVIDUAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PREDICTORS OF ADJUSTMENT DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF COLLEGE, Journal of college student development, 36(4), 1995, pp. 347-360
Predictors of academic and psychological adjustment among 56 first-yea
r college students were investigated. Although individual variables (A
CT score, problem-solving skills, surgency/intellect, emotional stabil
ity) were related most strongly to adjustment, environmental variables
(social support, daily hassles, distance from home) made significant
incremental contributions to the prediction of grade point average, so
cial adjustment, and psychological symptoms. Implications for interven
tion are discussed.
