Abstract
Recent studies of Rickettsia tsutsugamushi have demonstrated clearly t he phenotypic and genotypic differences between this microorganism and other species belonging to the genus Rickettsia. Therefore, classific ation of R. tsutsugamushi in a new genus, Orientia gen. nov., is propo sed.
