An instrument is described which has been developed to measure the ave
rage attack depth of concrete slats, i.e. the volume of eroded concret
e per unit of surface area. The measuring instrument is used to enclos
e part of a slat beam and defines the height of the formerly unattacke
d concrete surface, which afterwards can be reconstructed with sand. T
he volume of sand and the surface area of the sand spot are measured a
nd the average thickness of the eroded concrete layer is calculated.
