Abstract
Processing-induced residual strains in solid cylinders of Nickel 200 w ere investigated using phase shifting moire interferometry. Two differ ent experimental approaches were used to study the strains produced du ring Tungsten-inert gas spot welding. A comparison of results for a 'h ot/fast' and a 'cool/slow' weld demonstrate the capabilities of the ge neral approach. Both experimental methods revealed distinct difference s in the residual displacement and strain fields between the two types of welds. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Limited.
