The paraffin-induced dimension shrinking of polystyrene chains in para
ffin/polystyrene/benzene mixtures is reported in terms of the variatio
n of the reduced viscosity eta(sp)/c as a function of the concentratio
n of polystyrene. The critical concentration c* in which a strong rep
ulsion between molecules of polystyrene and of paraffin occurs is dete
rmined. This critical concentration is found to be dependent on the we
ight ratio of two components and molecular weight of polystyrene. Plot
s of the normalized reduced viscosity the normalized concentration are
found to be scaled to a single master curve.
