A technique is described for the determination of the rate of corrosio
n based on the harmonic analysis of the current. of the electrode pert
urbed with relatively small amplitude undistorted sinusoidal alternati
ng voltage. The measurement carried out in the vicinity of the corrosi
on potential permits the determination of both the corrosion current d
ensity and the Tafel slopes. The technique is illustrated by the study
of the corrosion of various types of iron electrodes in acidic and ne
utral media.
