Pa. Turner et L. Livingstone, A METHOD TO MONITOR CLEANLINESS OF WASHED PULP DIRECTLY - STEAM SAVINGS OVER 500,000-DOLLAR A YEAR ARE REPORTED, Pulp & paper Canada, 96(6), 1995, pp. 71-75
A method has been developed to separate a representative stream of fil
trate from washed pulp leaving the last drum washer in the brown stock
area. This development will allow automatic feedback control to be im
plemented in the washing area for the first time at many mills. Direct
measurement of the conductivity of this filtrate can be used to monit
or fluctuations in pulp cleanliness as they occur on the washer This i
s a huge improvement over monitoring the conductivity of filtrate in t
he drop-leg, since the damping effect of recirculated filtrate from th
e vat is avoided.
