R. Evans et al., DEVELOPMENTS IN SENSORS AND CONTROL STRATEGIES FOR REFINERS - REPORTSOF A NOVEL-APPROACH TO REFINER CONTROL, Pulp & paper Canada, 96(6), 1995, pp. 76-79
Variations in chip density and moisture content are the source of many
of the disturbances in refiner operation and are very difficult to me
asure on-line and frequently enough to implement closed loop control o
f the refiner. A novel approach is to measure consistency in the refin
er blow-line on a continuous basis and to use the measurement to contr
ol dilution water flow and chip feed. Variations in refiner power and
blow-line consistency have been reduced significantly. The benefits ob
tained-are improved quality energy savings, increased line availabilit
y and production.
