The structure of 5SiO(2) . 2Ta(2)O(5) . 3Na(2)O glass has been investi
gated by X-ray radial distribution analysis based on X-ray diffraction
intensity measurements. The electron radial distribution function was
calculated by the usual Fourier transformation and interpretation of
it was made in terms of pair functions. It has been found from the det
ermined peak positions and pair function analysis that most of the Ta5
+ ions are present in six-fold coordination form. It was deduced that
the TaO6 octahedra are distorted in the glass structure.
