Abstract
Alpha-interferon is a cytokine with powerful antiviral and immunomodul atory effects. It is currently the only licensed treatment for chronic hepatitis C infection. However, the effectiveness of this treatment i n the condition is limited and this article summarises what is current ly known about alpha-interferon and its use in patients with hepatitis C infection.
