This is a case of a 73-year-old man who underwent arthroscopic decompr
ession of his left subacromial space. This procedure was carried out u
nder general anaesthesia with the joint continuously irrigated with fl
uid. The volume of fluid absorbed into the systemic circulation was es
timated by measuring the expired ethanol concentration using an alcol
meter.
