True aneurysms of the superficial femoral artery (SFA) are rarely seen
. The authors report a case of SFA aneurysm associated with an aneurys
m of the abdominal aorta, and they review the literature. These aneury
sms mostly occur in the elderly as compared with other peripheral aneu
rysms. The majority of these aneurysms remain silent and present with
the onset of serious complications. Since the mortality and morbidity
after surgical repair are quite low, the presence of the aneurysm itse
lf should prompt surgical repair even in the asymptomatic patient.
