Abstract
Observed radiative lifetime of the 1.82 mu m transition of Tm3+ (F-3(4 ) --> H-3(6)) was determined in ZBLAN fluoride glass at TmF3 concentra tions of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 mol%. Comparison was made with calculat ed lifetimes to assess the effect of Tm3+ concentration quenching pr o cesses due to Tm3+ --> Tm3+ energy transfer. It was found that the tra nsition lifetime of F-3(4) --> H-3(6) is not significantly affected at TmF3 concentrations of 2 mol% or less.
