Grimmia limprichtii Kern was found 1993 in the French Hautes Alps. Thi
s rare alpine species, described in 1897 from the Italian Alps, was su
bsequently recorded from some French and Swiss localities. Because Loe
ske incorrectly considered it to be a muticous form of G. anodon Bruch
et Schimp., the species was more or less forgotten. Its morphology, t
axonomy, ecology, and distribution are briefly outlined. Grimmia obtus
ifolia Gao and Cao, recently described from the Himalayas, is conspeci
fic with G. limprichtii Kern.
