The optical absorption spectra of lithium sodium potassium sulphate do
ped Ni2+ ions at 300 and 77 K was recorded. The observed bands are ass
igned as transitions from the ground state (3)A(2)g(F) to various exci
ted triplet and singlet states of the Ni2+ ion in octahedral symmetry.
The splittings observed for tile bands (3)T(1)g(F) and (3)T(2)g(F) at
liquid nitrogen temperature have been explained as due to spin-orbit
interaction. The oscillator strengths of tile transitions were compute
d from tile area under the curves. From a detailed analysis of the ban
ds of tile spectrum, tile crystal field parameters B, C, Dq and xi are
evaluated.
