Ij. Venter et Sw. Petrick, ACUTE BLINDNESS IN A DOG CAUSED BY SUDDEN ACQUIRED RETINAL DEGENERATION, Journal of the South African Veterinary Medical Association, 66(1), 1995, pp. 32-34
A 6-year-old male Boxer dog was presented with a history of acute blin
dness. Direct and consensual papillary light reflexes were reduced. Th
e fundus of both eyes appeared normal during ophthalmoscopic examinati
on. Further diagnostic investigations included magnetic resonance imag
ing of the brain and electroretinography. Magnetic resonances imaging
of the brain was normal, but the electroretinogram was extinguished. A
diagnosis of sudden acquired retinal degeneration was made.
