This paper presents a taxonomic revision based on morphology of the ge
nus Eriachne R.Br. which includes 51 taxa (48 species, two varieties a
nd one subspecies), of which 10 species are presented as new. Changes
in nomenclature include three new combinations. Five species and 13 va
rieties are reduced to synonymy, and two trinomials are placed in syno
nymy. Lectotypes are designated for four taxa. The distributions of E.
humilis and E. obtusa are extended to Irian Barat, the former also to
Papua New Guinea, and E. armitii and E. nervosa to Western Australia.
Cleistogamy and a vesicular indumentum are noteworthy features.
