H. Mustafa et E. Bekassymolnar, INFLUENCE OF WEEPING ON MASS-TRANSFER RATE OF DIFFERENT PLATES, Chemical engineering research & design, 73(A4), 1995, pp. 392-397
The influence of weeping on the mass transfer of different industrial
plates was investigated in a 400 mm inside diameter column equipped wi
th 4 plates. The absorption of acetone from air to tap water was measu
red on vibrating valve, Nutter valve, Glitch valve, sieve and turbogri
d plates with varied weir heights. The weeping was determined by a dir
ect method. The tray efficiency (eta) of the investigated plates decre
ased 1-5% with the increase of weeping rate, while it decreased 10-25%
with the increase of weir height. Mass transfer characteristics of th
e above plates, namely recovery efficiency (E), volumetric mass transf
er coefficient (K(G)a) and pressure drop related to one theoretical pl
ate (Delta p/N-th) were measured and compared.
