The new metal-rich telluride NbNi2.38Te3 was synthesized and its struc
ture determined by single-crystal X-ray methods. The structure consist
s of NbNi2Te3-layers which are interconnected by Ni-atoms on partially
occupied sites at the layer surfaces. NbNi2.38Te3 can be regarded as
a stuffed variant of TaFe1+xTe3. Metal-metal interactions are importan
t for the stability of this compound. NbNi2.38Te3 shows metallic condu
ctivity.
