113 specimens of Lepraria jackii, for the most part from Central Europ
e were analysed by lichen mass spectrometry and/or by thin layer chrom
atography. Regularly occurring major compounds are atranorin and the f
atty acids jackinic and/or roccellic acid. Jackinic acid and its minor
compound norjackinic acid are hitherto unknown lichen substances. The
accessoric zeorin is rarely found occurring in variable amounts. The
sporadic occurrence of 6-methyl-pannarate, usnic, gyrophoric or sticti
s acids is interpreted as contamination.
