Abstract
An S-parameter design approach for optically injection-locked microwav e oscillators is presented, The approach is verified through the desig n of a 21-GHz microstrip MESFET oscillator that is locked by the detec ted signal from an edge-coupled heterojunction phototransistor. Relati ve locking bandwidths (B/f(o)) of over 10% have been measured, The eff ects of modulated locking signals on such wide locking bandwidth oscil lators are also considered, and it is shown that they may be used as F M transmitters and as AIM-to-PM converters.
