G. Jones et S. Haykin, HIGHER-DIMENSION DETECTION OF TARGETS FROM SCANNED RADAR, IEE proceedings. Radar, sonar and navigation, 143(5), 1996, pp. 313-320
The detection of targets from a coherent radar scan is examined, as we
ll as how sophisticated signal processing techniques may be incorporat
ed into such tasks. Techniques of coherent constant-false-alarm-rate (
CFAR) detection are discussed for this scanning-mode problem. In an at
tempt to better utilise the information present in the scan plane for
detection, the use of higher-dimensional analysis techniques is discus
sed. The fundamental advantage is their ability to provide spatial sep
aration (in these higher dimensions) of signal features, which it is h
oped will enhance the detection performance. A method, employing such
techniques, is presented, and contrasted with traditional CFAR approac
hes. Some examples are presented using real data, collected with McMas
ter University's X-band coherent radar.
