Abstract
One of the main purposes in Materials Science remains the control of t he microstructure because it influences a great number of properties m echanical, magnetic, ... From the casting step, this microstructure tr ansforms during the different thermal and thermomechanical treatments. The driving force involved in primary recrystallisation is at the fir st order the dislocation density whereas the area reduction of grain b oundaries, the grain size distribution, the spatial distribution of bo undaries, the crystallographic texture, the chemistry of the material control grain growth. In the first step, analytical models of growth w ill be recalled, then in a second step the recent progress on primary recrystallisation and growth simulation using Monte Carte method will be described.
