E. Erbay et T. Bilgic, DIFFUSION CHARACTERISTICS OF VINYL-CHLORIDE FROM PVC IN SLURRY PHASE, Die Angewandte makromolekulare Chemie, 226, 1995, pp. 39-46
The porous nature of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) brings along the probl
em of residual vinyl chloride in the final product. Stripping techniqu
es are developed to eliminate vinyl chloride to the desired levels. Af
ter a certain extent of monomer removal, the stripping rate of vinyl c
hloride is limited by diffusion. Therefore, the diffusion characterist
ics of vinyl chloride from PVC slurries was investigated. Stripping wa
s carried out at the boiling point of water where the generated steam
was used as a carrier substance. The boiling point of water was change
d by elevating the pressures. The dependence of diffusion on concentra
tion is put forward and the activation energy of diffusion was calcula
ted.
