Iv. Pavlova et al., INFLUENCE OF STIMULATION OF THE LATERAL H YPOTHALAMUS ON CORRELATION OF IMPULSE ACTIVITY OF RABBITS NEOCORTICAL NEURONS, Zurnal vyssej nervnoj deatelnosti im. I.P. Pavlova, 46(6), 1996, pp. 1068-1075
Cross- and autocorrelation histograms of the impulse activity of the v
isual and sensorimotor cortical neurons were plotted before and after
stimulation of the right (RH) and left lateral hypothalamus (LH) which
provoked food motivation reactions. Reorganization in correlated acti
vity of neocortical neurons was more expressed after the LH than the R
H stimulation. Only after the LH stimulation the number of neuronal pa
irs with correlated activity in the left hemisphere increased by 41% a
nd some order of priority appeared in the neuronal discharges. The vis
ual neurons discharged after the sensorimotor ones with delays up to 1
20 ms. The conclusion was drawn that cortical interhemispheric asymmet
ry of electrical activity during hunger was associated with unequal op
eration of the right and left lateral hypothalamus.
