To further our knowledge on the speciation mechanisms in Spalax ehrenb
ergi superspecies, we set out to study the spermatogenesis of hybrid i
ndividuals belonging to two different hybrid zones (the one between th
e chromosomal species with 2n = 52 and 2n = 58 and the other between t
he chromosomal species with 2n = 58 and 2n = 60). The data show an imp
aired gametogenesis process for all the hybrids studied, even though t
he production of sperm is not completely affected.
