G. Derosa et al., HYPERTHYROIDISM AFTER RADIOLOGIC CONTRAST AGENTS AND RADIOTHERAPY FORHODGKINS-DISEASE, Journal of experimental & clinical cancer research, 14(2), 1995, pp. 221-224
Exposure of the neck to external radiation and the wide use of iodine
contrast agents increases the risk of subsequent thyroid disease. This
study reports transient hyperthyroidism in an 18-year-old girl with H
odgkin's disease, after lymphangiography and neck irradiation. This ca
se strengthens the idea that thyroid hyperfunction could develop after
thyroid damage with subsequent release of antigens.
