Abstract
Performing a relativistic approximation of the Klein-Gordon equation t he interaction of matter with light in the presence of a gravitational field is treated. One main result is that the electric dipole couplin g remains unchanged provided the electric field as well as the dipole are operationally defined by measured quantities. In contrast, the mag netic dipole coupling will be modified by the gravitational field.
