A. Hussain et al., PERFORMANCE OF A SUBOPTIMUM PPM PRESYNCHRONIZATION FILTERING NETWORK, Microwave and optical technology letters, 9(5), 1995, pp. 269-274
An optimum presynchronization filter for the pulse-position-modulation
(PPM) signal is derived and shown to be comprised of a matched filter
in cascade with a derivative network. An original investigation of th
e performance of the filtered PPM system is presented. The matched fil
ter is realized from a time-domain specification on the received pulse
shape and an RC combination derivative network is used to shape the p
ulse. The results demonstrate that there exists an optimum value of th
e differentiating capacitor resulting in performance that is close to
the true derivative. The results obtained illustrate a significant imp
rovement in both the timing valiance and jitter wrong slot error (JWSE
) probability compared to that for the matched filter. (C) 1995 John W
