Abstract
The functionalized (fluoroaryl)borate salts Ph(3)C(+)B(C6F4TBS)(4)(-) and Ph(3)C(+)B(C6F4TIPS)(4)(-) (TBS = (t)BuMe(2)Si; TIPS = (Pr3Si)-Pr- i) are prepared in three steps from 1,4-HC6F4Br. Reaction with zircono cene dimethyls yields crystalline, thermally stable, soluble L(2)ZrCH( 3)(+)B-(C(6)F(4)SiR(3))(4)(-) and L'2ZrH+B(C(6)F(4)SiR(3))(4)(-) salts (L = eta(5)-C5H5; eta(5)-1,2-Me(2)C(5)H(3); L' = eta(5)-Me(5)C(5)) wh ich function as highly active ethylene polymerization catalysts.
