Abstract
A series of organoindium phosphides including (Me(3)CCH(2))(2)InPRR' ( R = R' = Et, C6H11; R = C6H11, R' = H; R = Me, R' = Ph) and (Me(3)SiCH (2))(2)InP(Me)Ph have been prepared and characterized. The characteriz ation data include partial elemental analyses (C, H), H-1 and P-31 NMR and IR spectral studies, physical properties, cryoscopic molecular we ight studies (with the exception of (Me(3)CCH(2))(2)InP(C6H11)(2)), an d X-ray structural studies of [(Me(3)CCH(2))(2)-InPEt(2)](2) and [(Me( 3)CCH(2))(2)InP(H)(C6H11)](3). The compound (Me(3)CCH(2))(2)InPEt(2) i s observed to be a dimer in benzene solution; (Me(3)CCH(2))(2)InP(H)(C 6H11) exists as a dimer-trimer equilibrium mixture, whereas (Me(3)CCH( 2))(2)InP(Me)(Ph) and (Me(3)SiCH(2))2InP(Me)(Ph) are trimers. NMR stud ies are consistent with (Me(3)CCH(2))(2)InP(C6H11)(2) being a dimer in benzene solution, but the concentration was too low to confirm the co nclusion by cryoscopic molecular weight studies. The compound [(Me(3)C CH(2))(2)InPEt(2)](2) contains a planar In2P2 core with In-P distances of 2.623(2) and 2.641(2) Angstrom. The compound [(Me(3)CCH(2))2InP(H) (C6H11)](3) has an In3P3 six-membered ring which is in the twist-boat conformation with In-P distances ranging from 2.613(3) to 2.659(2) Ang strom.
