UNUSUAL INTERACTION OF AG-ETHER - SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURES OF [PDCL(L)] AND [PD(H2O)(L)(AG)][CF3SO3](2) (L=5,8,11-TRIOXA-2,14-DITHIA[15]-M-CYCLOPHANE)( WITH AN ORGANOPALLADIUM CROWN)

Reaction of 2 equiv of [Ag][CF3SO3] with the organopalladium crown eth
er [PdCl(L)] (L = 5,8,11-trioxa-2,14-dithia[l5]-m-cyclophane) results
in formation of AgCl and encapsulation of the second Ag+ ion to form t
he bimetallic complex [Pd(H2O)(L)(Ag)][CF3SO3](2). The X-ray structure
of [Pd(H2O)(L)(Ag)][CF3SO3]2 . CH2Cl2 shows that the electrophilic Ag
+ ion is bound to the Pd-C(aryl) unit and that this interaction is com
plemented by peripheral coordination to the ether oxygens and a counte
rion.
