E. Castagnola et al., LOW CD4 LYMPHOCYTE COUNT IN A PATIENT WITH PNEUMOCYSTIS-CARINII PNEUMONIA AFTER AUTOLOGOUS BONE-MARROW TRANSPLANTATION, Bone marrow transplantation, 15(6), 1995, pp. 977-978
Authors report a case of P. carinii pneumonia in a child with 5% CD4 l
ymphocytes (absolute number 5/mu l) after autologous bone marrow trans
plantation followed by pulmonary irradiation. Serial evaluation of CD4
lymphocyte count or percentage or, at least, detection of significant
and persistent lymphopenia could be useful for detecting a high risk
of developing P. carinii pneumonia.
