The synthesis and characterisation of some 8-coordinate cis-dioxomolyb
denum(VI) complexes of Schiff bases derived from 4-aminoantipyrine and
4-acetyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one, 3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-pro
pionyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one, and 4-benxoyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-
5-one are reported. Spectroscopic and other analytical data reveal tha
t these Schiff bases behave as monobasic tridentate ligands and react
with [MoO2(acac)(2)] in 2:1 ratio to give diamagnetic molybdenum(VI) m
ononuclear complexes having the general formula cis-MoO2(L)(2) (L=Schi
ff base). These complexes were characterised by elemental analysis, mo
lar conductance, IR, UV-vis, H-1 NMR, and cyclic voltammetry.
