The in situ reaction of the complex salts [(mu-CO)(mu-RS)Fe-2(CO)(6)]E
T(3)NH derived from Fe-3(CO)(12), RSH and Et(3)N with p-, or m-phthalo
yl chloride in THF at room temperature afforded six novel phthaloyl br
idged iron-sulfur complexes [(mu-RS)Fe-2(CO)(6)](2) (mu-p-OCC6H4CO-p-m
u) (R = Et, n-BU, t-Bu) and [(mu-RS)Fe-2(CO)(6)](2)(mu-m-OCC6H4CO-m-mu
) (R = n-Pr, n-Bu, t-Bu). These new complexes were characterized by el
emental analysis, IR and H-1 NMR spectroscopies and the reaction cours
e was discussed. In addition, a new synthetic route to p-phthaloyl chl
oride has been developed.
