To investigate the detailed evaluation for aluminium (Al) electrowinni
ng in vertical type electrolysis cell using carbon (C)-composite mater
ial containing titanium boride (TiB2) as a cathode, the current effici
ency was determined by in situ gas analysis, The current efficiency de
termined by the gas analysis was larger than those determined by metal
weight analysis. The current efficiency was influenced by the distanc
e between anode and cathode, current density, etc.:The Al electrolysis
could be carried out at the narrow distance of 1.5 cm. The current ef
ficiency increased with increasing current density. Based on the resul
ts obtained it can be expected to decrease a power comsumption in Al e
lectrowinning and increase output of Al.
