The electrooxidation of benzyl alcohol was investigated employing a Pt
-Nafion composite electrode in both polar and non-polar solvents. The
use of hexane as a solvent caused the current efficiency for benzaldeh
yde formation to increase greatly compared with that in acetonitrile.
Furthermore, the stability of the Pt-Nafion composite electrode for th
e repeated electrolyses was largely improved by the use of hexane.
