P. Engelhardt et al., ATLANTOAXIAL ROTATORY FIXATION - DELAYED DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY, Zeitschrift fur Orthopadie und Ihre Grenzgebiete, 133(3), 1995, pp. 196-201
Children may develop a torticollis due to Rotatory Subluxation not onl
y after minor trauma, infections of the upper respiratory tract, surgi
cal procedures in the oropharynx but also spontaneously. Three cases w
ith a delay in diagnosis are presented; the typical symptoms and other
causes of torticollis are discussed. The suggested treatement is mobi
lisation under general anaesthesia, fixation with a Halo for a few day
s and consecutiv immobilisation in a Minervacast for 4-8 weeks. This r
egimen was successfull in all three cases.
