The Ag-108 nucleus has been studied by in-beam gamma spectroscopy with
the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction Mo-100(B-11,3n gamma) at 39
MeV. Excitation functions, gamma-gamma-t coincidences, angular distri
butions, and DCOQ ratios were measured. A level scheme has been constr
ucted and various bands have been identified with characteristics simi
lar to those in other A approximate to 100 nuclei. Total Routhian surf
ace calculations predict prolate axially symmetric shapes with collect
ive and noncollective character and satisfactorily account for most of
the experimental results.
