Single crystals of BaPd2S4 have been grown in an H2S-stream from a mix
ture of BaPd(CN)(4) . 4H(2)O acid BaS in a KSCN-melt. The crystal stru
cture was solved using single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. BaPd2
S4 is monoclinic, P2(1)/m, a=7.252(1) Angstrom, b=6.764(1) Angstrom, c
=6.687(1) Angstrom, beta=110.45(1)degrees, Z=2. The new structure type
contains sulphur-palladium-sulphur layers in which two crystallograph
ic-different palladium (II) ions are planar coordinated by sulphide an
d disulphide ions. The layers are connected by barium ions.
