A total of 20 blood genetic systems (23 loci) was studied in a sample
of 127 individuals from the town of Tacuarembo, Uruguay. Generally the
frequencies observed are compatible with a mainly Caucasian populatio
n, but the presence of some markers (FYnull, DI*a, G6PD*A, PCM2*2), a
s well as the frequencies of some alleles (RHcde, GLO1*2, HP*1, HLA*A
2) suggest the presence of African and Amerindian derived genes. Diffe
rences in relation to allele frequencies previously obtained in Montev
ideo were also noted.
