Wh. Pirkle et Ai. Selim, AN IMPROVED VERSION OF AN OLD FLUOROCARBINOL CHIRAL STATIONARY-PHASE, HRC. Journal of high resolution chromatography, 18(6), 1995, pp. 353-358
A chiral stationary phase (CSP) derived from anthrone is quite effecti
ve for the chromatographic resolution of the enantiomers of a wide var
iety of compounds. Denoted CSP 4, the phase is a chiral 2,2,2-trifluor
o-1-(9-anthryl)ethanol tethered to silica by an eleven-carbon-atom cha
in at the 10-position of the anthryl ring. CSP 4 typically provides gr
eater enantioselectivity than its fluoroalcohol predecessor and is syn
thetically much more accessible.
