The susceptibility of a two-dimensional (2D) electron gas is calculate
d at weak magnetic fields by using an independent-electron model. It i
s indicated that the behavior of the susceptibility is quire different
from the bulk Landau susceptibility in the presence of a parabolic co
nfinement potential. More interestingly, the susceptibility diverges i
n the zero field limit. An experimental test of these theoretical pred
ictions is also proposed.
