PURPOSE: A case of diffuse colonic lipomatosis, dolichosigmoid, hypert
rophy of the epiploic appendices and diverticulosis of the colon produ
cing constipation, recurrent subocclusive episodes with diarrhea and v
omiting, and weight loss is reported. METHODS: Careful preoperative as
sessment of clinical, radiologic, and endoscopic findings suggested th
e diagnosis. Results: A total colectomy, followed by a lateroterminal
ileoproctostomy, gave complete relief from symptoms. Conclusions: Of t
he 12 cases of colonic lipomatosis previously reported, only 2 have is
olated involvement of the entire organ, but they do not present Lipoma
tosis of the epiploic appendices.
