M. Aznar et al., EFFECT OF THE SYNTHETIC AUXIN PHENOTHIOL ON FRUIT-DEVELOPMENT OF FORTUNE MANDARINE, Journal of Horticultural Science, 70(4), 1995, pp. 617-621
Use of phenothiol at the end of the physiological fruit drop improved
final fruit size of 'Fortune' mandarin. The auxin stimulated fruit dev
elopment at concentrations up to 20 mg l(-1) without causing fruit thi
nning. However, a concentration of 30 mg l(-1) thinning effect that co
ntributed to an improved response. An histological study of fruit tiss
ues revealed that phenothiol increased fruit size by enhancing cell en
largement in juice vesicles.
