Abstract
We derive the strong-coupling limit of the Hubbard Hamiltonian in a cl ass of polymeric chains displaying a ferrimagnetic structure. The deri ved Heisenberg Hamiltonian is used to calculate the spin-wave spectrum of the system. It is shown that there is a critical value for an exte rnal applied magnetic field above which the ferrimagnetic ordering bec omes unstable.
